Bromophenols can taint soft drinks through ingredients, water or packaging. They can also arise through growth of contaminant Alicylclobacillus bacteria in raw materials. Taints of this type impart unpleasant inky notes often described by consumers as ‘chemical’ or ‘contaminated’.
