Product Description
“Butyric, like cream liqueur, toffee or baby vomit, rancid”
Certified soft drinks flavour standard used to train professional soft drink tasters to recognize and scale the intensity of butyric character.
Butyric acid contaminates soft drinks via sugar syrups. Growth of contaminant bacteria in such syrups leads to its formation. This note can also be occasionally caused by penetration of adhesive label components into soft drinks which have been packaged in plastic bottles. Butyric acid imparts a rancid flavour, reminiscent of baby vomit, and is consequently universally rejected by consumers.
