Trichloroanisoles contaminate soft drinks through ingredients, water, air and packaging materials. The compounds arise from the action of moulds on common environmental contaminants. Chloroanisoles are extremely flavour-active. They impart unpleasant musty odours, reminiscent of damp cellars or corked wine.
